| Personal History | Trent was born June 14, 1998, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the oldest of Max and Nadine Busby's three children. He grew up as part of a large extended family centered around the family ranch, where grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins were never very far away. Max was an Air Force pilot, and his career sometimes took Nadine and the children away from Wyoming, including several years near Nellis Air Force Base. To Trent, however, he was Dad first. Max took him hunting, fishing, hiking and camping, teaching him how to handle a firearm and respect both the weapon and what he was hunting. Trent also developed an early love of history, particularly the World Wars, and was just as interested in why things happened as he was in the battles themselves. Growing up around the Air Force gave Trent an interest in military service, although it wasn't necessarily his father's branch that caught his eye. During an open house at Nellis, he became fascinated with the Marines. Max never let him live it down. Nadine had her own influence on Trent. She taught him to dance when he was still small enough that nobody could have guessed he would eventually grow to six-foot-five. He took to it readily and continued dancing as he grew, something that helped considerably when the rest of him seemed determined to grow faster than he could keep track of. In July 2009, shortly after Trent's eleventh birthday, that life changed when Max was killed during Ba'al's attack. Nadine returned to Wyoming with Trent, Martha and Henry, settling back into life on the family ranch. The family had always been close, but Max's death changed some of the dynamics. Ted and Susie became a greater part of the children's everyday lives, as did Rory and Louisa. Trent and his siblings also grew up alongside their cousins Garrett, Samantha and Natalie. Nobody took Max's place; there were simply more hands around when Nadine or the children needed them. Ranch life kept everyone busy. Trent learned to ride, work cattle, rope, repair what needed repairing and do his share of the chores. Hunting, fishing and camping continued as well, with Ted, Rory and Garrett passing along what they knew while keeping alive many of the things Max had already begun teaching him. As Trent grew older, so did his interest in military service. Garrett joined the Navy after high school, giving Trent another example to look to besides his father. By then Trent had also grown considerably, and ranch work, regular exercise and years of dancing had helped him become comfortable with a body that seemed determined to keep getting bigger. The Marines had never quite left his mind, but Trent didn't make the decision simply because they had caught his attention as a boy. He looked seriously at the other branches, including the Army, and learned what each had to offer. His mother wasn't thrilled with the idea of another member of her family going into harm's way, and Ted made certain Trent understood that following Max into military service wasn't something he owed his father. Trent understood. He wasn't trying to become Max. He wanted to become a Marine. At eighteen, Trent enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Marine training was demanding, but Trent came into it accustomed to hard work and long days. The ranch had given him a good foundation, but the Marines taught him how much more there was to learn. Trent went into infantry and eventually Recon, where his skills in marksmanship, fieldcraft and observation served him well. He also picked up training in demolitions. He has a slight attraction of making things explode and not explode. Over the years Trent gained experience and eventually rose to the rank of Sergeant. In 2026, his record brought him to the attention of Stargate Command and he was assigned to SG-2. |
